Helen Moe, 100, of Clear Lake, passed away on May 1.
Helen Moe is survived by her children, Judy Lammers, Joanie Sandberg, James, Jesse, Steven, Carey, Robert and Jon.
The funeral service for Helen Moe will be held at Barron Foursquare Church, on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
Visitation is Tuesday, from 12 until 1 p.m. at the church.

(Chicago, IL) — The Brewers were blanked Sunday in the series finale at Chicago 5-0. Freddy Peralta was unusually wild, walking a career-high six batters in five innings of work while absorbing his first loss of the season. Peralta is still appealing the five-game suspension he was handed last week. Milwaukee went oh-for-7 with runners in scoring position. The Brewers send Bryse Wilson to the mound tonight (Monday) to start a three-game series at Kansas City. Due to inclement weather the start time has been moved up. Pregame now starts at 5:35pm with first pitch at 6:10pm on AM1240 & 96.5FM.

The Boston Red Sox ended Minnesota’s 12-game winning streak by beating the Twins 9-2 on Sunday. The Twins 12-game winning streak was tied for the second-longest in team history behind a 15-win run in June 1991, the last season Minnesota won the World Series.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Donovan Mitchell scored 39 points and the Cleveland Cavaliers avoided a potentially franchise-shifting loss by rallying for a 106-94 win over the Orlando Magic in Game 7. The Cavs will play Boston in the next round.

The Dallas Stars beat the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights 2-1 on Sunday night to wrap up the first-round series. The Stars, the No. 1 seed in the West, move on to play well-rested Colorado in the second round.

McKINNEY, Texas (AP) — Taylor Pendrith took advantage of Ben Kohles’ final-hole meltdown to win the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Sunday for his first PGA Tour title.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Kyle Larson beat Chris Buescher (Bue-sher) to the line at Kansas Speedway on Sunday in the closest finish in NASCAR history. The official winning margin for the Cup Series race Sunday was a thousandth of a second.

Rice Lake Main Street Project update, May 6, 2024

New benches, chairs and planters have been placed downtown along Rice Lake’s Main Street, signaling the final stages of the city’s main street project.

Tomorrow or Wednesday, crews will be removing and replacing defective concrete. No road closures are planned, but concrete trucks and other equipment will be using parking spaces.

In the next week or two, downtown Main Street will be closed for two, one-day spans, to replace the defective catenary lights at the Newton and Eau Claire street intersections. The dates of the one-day closures are not yet known but will be announced later.

Barron’s Main Street Project update for May 6

BARRON, Wis. (WJMC) — Barron’s Main Street project is closing the Seventh Street intersection near KJ’s Market.

Barron’s La Salle Avenue is closed from Seventh to Second streets. Main Street businesses can be accessed along Monroe and South Fifth Street. The Seventh Street intersection will reopen tomorrow to local traffic.

Construction crews are removing pavement and replacing utility infrastructure over the next several weeks.

The $4.8 million project is slated for completion in mid-October.

Wisconsin Supreme Court will decide whether mobile voting sites are legal

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state Supreme Court has decided it will hear a case dealing with the legality of mobile voting sites without first letting it wind through any lower appellate courts.

A conservative law firm sued in December 2022, alleging Racine city officials illegally used a voting van to collect absentee ballots that year.

A circuit judge in January ruled state law doesn’t allow mobile voting sites. The Racine city clerk and the Democratic National Committee asked the Supreme Court to hear an appeal directly without letting a lower appellate court rule first.

The court issued an order Friday indicated the justices had voted 4-3 to take the case.

Private northern Wisconsin college facing huge deficit will remain open, operating on “refocused” model

ASHLAND, Wis. (WRN) — A private college in northern Wisconsin, at risk of closing, will remain open.

After announcing in March they’d have to close if they couldn’t raise $12 million by early April, the board of trustees at Northland College announced Thursday that the Ashland school would operate on a refocused model.

The changes would lead to staff and faculty adjustments leading to almost $7 million in savings. The college will also offer only eight majors. The board says Northland will conclude its current academic year as planned and offer support to students who want to transition out of the college.

The 132-year-old school is the nation’s first environmentally focused liberal arts college.
