On this day in US history, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the historic Civil Rights Act into law in a nationally televised ceremony at the White House on July 2, 1964. The most sweeping civil rights legislation passed by Congress since the post-Civil War era, it prohibited racial discrimination in employment, education, and outlawed racial segregation in public spaces. On top of that, the bill laid vital groundwork for other legislation, such as the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Showing the numerous points of success for the Civil Rights movement.
